Our son got the sweetest reward for a report card that you or I ever had; we bought him a drum set at Sam Ash.
His 'band', which consists of 2 guitar players, one bass player and the invariable vocalist, are extremely jazzed.
The most wonderful thing, to them, is that we've devoted an entire room in our house (the only one that doesn't currently include a kid) to the band. It's a long-shot better than where they were forced to practice before......cramped garages and/or backyards of the other band member's houses.
It's a fun thing, to be the 'band mom'. I get to listen to them banging out ideas and even arguing verbally with each other, while at the same time making sure they've got enough snacks and drinks to keep them alive.
One day, the pics and videos I've taken will be a part of some documentary about 'Where It All Began', because, quite honestly, my son has taught himself guitar and drums......which is an amazing thing unto itself. His bandmates are also really talented guys who just happen to love me. Who wouldn't? : )
I'm practicing what to say on camera when MTV or Rolling Stone come to me, many years from now and say, "So....you're kind of the Aunt Mimi here. Tell me how it all began".
