I'm currently reading Richard Dawkins' "A Devil's Chaplain", and came across a section about postmodernism. It talks about a few psuedoscientific papers/books, written by certain physicists, that are complete and utter nonsense. The thing is, when you're reading their bullshit, it all appears very factual and deep and impossible to argue against; the problem is, it's completely false...factually and scientifically......yet it's grammatically and syntactically correct.
Dawkins puts a link to something called The Postmodern Generator , that randomly generates the very same sort of hogwash. He says, "you could generate thousands of papers per day, each one unique and ready for publication, complete with numbered endnotes". He adds, "these papers are only distinguishable from the real thing in that they are more fun to read". Give it a try.
I guess this all struck me as so incredibly funny because of all of the blog comments I run across (on various blogs on various subjects) that appear to come from quite learned individuals, but yet I cannot for the life of me decipher what the fuck they're talking about. My guess is they have The Postmodern Generator bookmarked for those times when they want to textually crush everyone else on the blog.
Posers....your secret is out.
